Thanks Scotty!
I've been thanking God I wasn't hurt when I went flying off the bike.  I even managed to lift my leg before her bumper smashed the shift lever and footpeg up and into the Primary cover.  Weird, I never got an adrenaline rush, just reacted.  Maybe getting too old for drama. LOL
I'm waiting to see what the insurance company says.  If they total it, I get to go shopping.  If they want to fix it, I probably won't see it before Spring.

Hey, D the D,
Glad to hear you're OK. Getting run over does kinda suck. ATTGATT should be the byword, But, I'm as guilty as anyone about ignoring that myself. Fortunately I usually land someplace where I have armor, like my wallet! I did buy some AlpineStar SMX-1 boots a couple of weeks ago. Kinda like high sneakers with a bit of armor in them and ankle protection. They're less hassle than full size boots and lighter and quite comfortable to walk around in. Zippered sides. No laces. And even lightly vented. I can feel the airflow through them.

Thanks Bare!  Glad you wear some protection.
I have a Mesh Summer jacket and lightweight Summer boots similar to yours.  The jacket has zippers for breathers front and back, armor in the elbows, shoulders and back, and a separate rain liner.  Can't tell it's mesh or armored except up close.  It actually gets chilly riding below 70*F without the liner in it.   Protection doesn't have to be heavy, clunky and ugly.   The helmet literally saved the skin of my nose.  Big scratches where the chin hit the ground.  Guess I'm getting a new jacket and helmet from the insurance company since policy is if it hit the ground, it's trash.
Ride defensively ladies and gentlemen.

Didn't really do it today, but I guess yesterday is close enough.  I'm getting ready to do a three-day trip on the C5 Special, and I needed something to allow me to strap a waterproof bag above the rear fender.  I suppose I'll purchase some sort of fender rack in the future, but I needed something now.

An hour of sawing and fitting some left-over furring strips, a little non-skid tape, and three bolts later I have a nice little  rack that sits on top of the pannier rack.

Cheers,

Dan K.

That came out nice Dan!  I was picturing it as you were describing it to me and it looks even better than I imagined.  Nice custom fit and well finished.  Great Work!  :D

Thanks Mattsz and Scottie,

I think it will hold up for a good bit.  Untreated pine, so it's not the best wood.

Cheers,

After your trip, let me spray some polyurethane clear coat on there and it will hold up real well!  I'll even do it for a 6 pack of beer.  :)

Sorry to hear that a lady just ran into you. Fortunately your are OK for the most part.

It is so critical to have all the gear on since one does not know what will happen at any moment. Hope insurance pays you for everything and you can get good jacket and helmet  and your motorcycle back or a new bike.

Take care.
