the brit style ones supplied by hichcocks have been checked out and they work good,

Agree with Freddy... bought a Schwinn unit at Wal-Mart for less than $20 (US) and used a rare earth magnet on the rim to trigger it... spot on against GPS... (my speedo indicates 62MPH at 55MPH actual).

Personally - I'm going to be looking UP when I ride and not at the "Enfield Speed Suggestor" .....  I didn't even HAVE one of the pesky things on my bikes until the state required one .... then I just hung one from the car junque-yard on it - and THEN the buggers wanted it to WORK ..... sheesh! Go figger ......

Leonard - That IS a good one! I agree in principle with that cat - but SAFETY equipment is one thing I'll NOT do without. Yeah - I did the helmet protest in the late seventies by riding around with one on my leg (wearing it ...) - but again - it was the principle .... I don't think a fellow should be FORCED to wear a seat belt or a helmet if he doesn't want to .... BUT .... I think you give up the right to cheap insurance (like health insurance if you are a smoker) and some medical coverage if you choose to ignore the obvious. I always wore the helmet (on mah haid!) without the speedo .....

The only time I ever peak the speedo is when I see an officer - and that's just habit.  Otherwise on a Bullet, I'm not terribly concerned.  If I was sitting on something red and Italian, I might want some accurate data.

Red and Italian is a tried and true revenue generator for the local constabulary - ASK me how I know this ..... This is why it's anchored to the wall in the garage with cobwebs .... I finally KNOW better than to ride it without looking at the instruments. A "heads up" ride will usually yield the "ton" just as I'm going into fourth gear ......  (and there are two more to go!)

  There are cures for that..after I got the Vic all tweaked in last summer I went for a little carbon reduction ride.  Ton by fourth w/o laboring..fifth to go.  Its called release thy grip on the go fast device....

Letting go of the happy handle on the Doo-Katty when it's talkin' to ya at about 8000rpm's of wide open throttle is harder to do than breakin' a heroin habit, I'll bet ........

  Got me there...the MG 850T was like that.  Actually probably less addictive than Madame H, and lots more fun..but alas VERY 'spensive for tickets.  Kind of like Brother Sammy says.

Talking of the speedo, is the smiths more accurate than stock. And is it plug and play, you know, take the stock off,plug the cable, twist the throttle kinda plug and play.

  To a certain point yes.  The stock cable on the classics (military/custom/deluxe) attaches no problem.  However you lose the neutral light/turn indicators/high beam indicator.  I have a different variant that has a green illumination ring around the outside that brightens the night display.  I also modified the bulb holder to put a larger bulb in for back lighting.   Had to do some engineering work on the hold down clamp also (drill/file work).

  And mine is within +/- 2 mph from accurate with police radar (had my neighbor the Deputy Sheriff gun me. .
