Chain Adjusters

Anybody had any experience with the new style chain adjusters?  (Those offered on page 103 of the 'NField' catalog).

You are going to have a little interference with the brake wear indicator hub where it sticks out of the backing plate IF your chain hasn't "relaxed" a bit ...... not a biggie, tho - and ANY bit of finagling that you do NOW will be worth not having to adjust the chain with the darn snails! It's truly about the ONLY part on an Enfield that I really hate .... well - that and the PAV parts that showed up on the later ones .....  ;)

DING, DING, DING!! Mike and Stumpy - GOOD ANSWER!! I haven't had the TIME to do mine yet (yeah - the chain is about draggin' the ground!) or I'd tell you how to do just that .....  ;)

The pointy thingie is neither here nor there. 
It's the base plate that has to be taken out.  > Going from memory <  There's an oval plate held on by 2 studs / nuts that are painted over (at least on the AVL).  That oval plate prevents the square part of the adjuster from laying flat and sliding into place "just so".  Take the chrome piece out that's between that oval and the swingarm and that should lower that oval plate just enough to slide the adjuster in.   (Took a long time to figure that one out)

If you don't have the wear indicator, no worries.

Forgive my ignorance. I've gone 13,000 miles on the OEM chain and now need a new one. I'm considering getting these adjusters, but could someone explain how they function and how they're better than the snails?

Also, it would be more helpful if the description on the store site said something more descriptive than, "Everybody needs these!"  :)

PS, I think I figured it out. Looks like if they come in a pair, they pull the wheel back to tighten the chain, keeping the wheel aligned?

Yep, mostly... ;)  Still need to check wheel alignment.  Once it's square, I adjust with half turns on each 'till the slack is right. 

I like 'em.  I use loctite on the threads - wouldn't want to have the nuts back off underway...

Or just put 1nylock nut on it like the Triumph's have.
