Change rear springs? (Has anybody done this?) hey C.M.W ?

Looking into changing the rear springs with the cmw pair. Has anybody done that? The ones on my 05"E don't disassemble. No keepers at the top, Snidal says they are non repairable...Hope I'm missing something really obvious. O.k. whats obvious is you cant change the springs, at least on the classic you cant. Classic should make that known in their web store. Ya,think?

You might find that changing the front springs to softer ones will have the effect of softening the rear.

This is because when your front wheel hits a bump the bike pivots about its CofG and compresses the rear shocks.  So when your rear wheel reaches the bump the rear shocks are already partly compressed making them feel hard.

Allready done, I really should remove this post. Changing the rears was the second best mod I've done so far. The fronts are next.

So...    how do you do it ?

You need a press of some sort. A plate of something with a 2 inch hole in it( I had 1/2 micarta). Press shock upside down through the hole to reveal a disc with 1 1/8 flats. This the locknut for the threaded top eye. Hold back on the disk and unscrew the eye with a bolt through it. Then ease of with the press. I also had a little vee block for the press ram, so it would engage the bottom eye safely. Try and use some stout but thin material for the plate, you can only compress the spring so far, and a thick plate wont leave you enough room for the 1 1/8 wrench. Its a bitch, but the second best thing you can do to an enfield .PS Get the covers while your at it...

The springs I changed to were softer, so this wont help in your case. Those stock springs were really stiff, if you need stiffer ones you may want to look into LWT Cheeses mod. ( I believe a good one, no matter what you ride).

The best bet is just to get a set of Hagans. The Enfield shocks have too much compression damping, too. But I'm sure the softer springs can help a lot.
