The transmission cover is exactly like the one that comes on the current 4 speed gearbox, except that it is a bit rounded. It's way different from the 5 speed.
That mudguard is stock. It was discontinued in the late '80s. As you observed, the number plate is not a separate piece but that's how the mudguard was shaped.
The bike looks quite different now. Will upload new pics after I buff the aluminium parts.

The transmission cover looks like a five speed, or is that what 4 speeds looked like in 1979? Also , dig the front fender with the number plate pressed into the sides.
