It's super funny reading these comments while I'm hearing roosters crowing here in my neighbor's yard. Yeah, they are EVERYWHERE. We get used to it and I don't even hear it.
As for eating them, I'm sure some people do. I've eaten the eggs and they are great, but small.

And the locals do not use them for food either. There is some cultural prohibition towards that.....

Those damn birds are everywhere, and the males make a racket all hours of the day and night.  They don't just scream when the sun comes up.  Nothing like a rooster yell at 3 am outside your window.

By the way, this photo's color is correct... the grass really is that color on Kauai.  Effing neon.

Hello Kauai 1800,
        I was there a few years ago. One hell of a ride up the mountain to the Wet Spot. Are there still wild chickens all over the island ? ! Nice looking Enfield.
